OUR HISTORY

100 Years and Counting

Our church was founded more than 100 years ago. Several faithful people journeyed ahead of us, attaining many milestones. This prepared the way for the present move of God. In May of 1996, the Lord sent Bishop Daniel Robertson, Jr. to Mt. Gilead. His style of preaching, teaching, and motivating attracted worshippers to our service and his compassion for God’s people kept them coming back Sunday after Sunday. We grew from 25 members to more than 4,000 ministry partners to date.

We soon became one of the fastest growing churches in the Richmond Metropolitan area, moving from one service on Sundays to three services in order to accommodate the growth. Not only did we increase in members, but we also increased our land in order to carry out God’s vision for the ministry.

Land Acquisition

  • 1999 – We purchased 9.97 acres of land at 7826 Walmsley Boulevard for $75,000. Within three months we paid off the land in cash.
  • 2001 – We purchased 62.94 acres of land behind the Kroger grocery store on Hicks Road, where our 62,000 square foot worship center now stands. We subsequently purchased 20 additional acres of land and two single dwelling homes which are used as transitional homes for families in crisis.

But, it hasn’t always been easy and we didn’t always hold worship services in our own building. During the three-year building process, the ministry held services every Sunday at Manchester High School and every Wednesday at Bailey Bridge Middle School and later Manchester Middle School. We did this by transforming the halls, classrooms, and auditorium into a well adorned house of worship.

Our Big Move

On August 8, 2004, we moved into our new worship center at 2501 Mt. Gilead Boulevard on the 8th day of the 8th month in our 8th year of ministry. Even the new address, 2501 totals 8. The number’s significance of new beginnings was rooted in our big move as we transitioned from the planning stage to the promise realized.

We initiated a Debt Free Campaign to pay off the remaining $1.6 million in debt on the existing church and its now 82 acres. On September 6, 2012, Mt. Gilead officially burned the ministry’s note of debt by raising $1.6 million within 3 months and 1 week. The mortgage, which originated in 2005 for $6.5 million, was paid in full in less than eight years.

Countless members, ministry partners and friends who participated in this campaign experienced promotion, debt cancellation, healing, and supernatural increase and favor. Even today, we continue to receive testimonies of those who are reaping the benefits from the anointing which rests upon our ministry. We continue to walk in the blessing prophesied in Amos 9:13-15.

“’Yes indeed, it won’t be long now.” God’s decree. “Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won’t be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once—and everywhere you look, blessings! Blessings like wine pouring off the mountains and hills. I’ll make everything right again for my people Israel:

“They’ll rebuild their ruined cities.
They’ll plant vineyards and drink good wine.
They’ll work their gardens and eat fresh vegetables.
And I’ll plant them, plant them on their own land.
They’ll never again be uprooted from the land I’ve given them.”
GOD, your God, says so. Amos 9:13-15 (Message Bible)

All of the blessings can’t even be told!

Our Ministry Tools

Gourmet Kitchen
One year after moving into the new building, we opened our state-of-the-art Gourmet Kitchen, debt free. The kitchen has a purpose of its own: to prepare meals for the homeless and those in dire need. It is also a catering resource for banquets, weddings, retirement parties, and other special community events.

The Net
You may see The Net, our mobile food cart, at a community event or at a park where homeless men and women gather. We use The Net to give out hot meals at local parks, street corners and neighborhood events to feed the hungry and minister to the lost.

Luxury Coach and Mini-Coach
The 56-passenger luxury coach and 28-passenger mini-coach are used for local evangelism events and to transport our missionaries. Our mobile billboard displays our international mandate, featuring pictures of people from all nations. It also showcases our evangelistic theme scripture, John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Private Jet
In 2013, we purchased a private jet (Citation III) known as the Weapon of Prosperity. Bishop Robertson keeps a busy international and domestic ministry schedule which takes him to places like Cuba, Kenya, Ghana, and all across the globe. The ministry’s private jet allows our man of God to travel with ease as he works for the Kingdom of God.

We now have a family that consists of members, ministry partners, and friends that exceeds 6,000. We are thankful to God for those He has sent to help fulfill His vision thus far, and we are also excited about those He is yet sending, as we continue Pursuing, Advancing and Taking Territories!
