Direct Support: encouraging personal skill development in all areas of life by showing, teaching and talking. \u2022 building self-esteem by doing things together, rather than doing everything for them. \u2022 providing opportunities for new experiences. \u2022 getting involved in the community through recreation, shopping, and building positive relationships \u2022 encouraging individuals to make choices and decisions in all areas of their lives, and providing the opportunities to learn how to make decisions \u2022 building a relationship based on respect, to enable you to offer support, guidance and direction \u2022 encouraging, teaching and assisting with household, community and personal responsibilities such as shopping, cleaning, doctor appointments. \u2022 supporting people in social situations to learn to feel comfortable and confident with others through appropriate interactions and build positive relationships.
\nTeamwork: offering support, respect and feedback to other team members \u2022 ensuring communication is clear, concise and honest \u2022 attending staff meetings and contributing professionally \u2022 covering assigned shifts or finding a suitable replacement, giving adequate notice and informing the team. \u2022 sharing and contributing ideas, knowledge \u2022 respecting the workplace physical structure, keeping it clean, safe and secure for those we support<\/p>\n
Health & Safety: administering medication correctly \u2022 being aware of and competent in dealing with individual medical needs ex. seizures, health concerns, allergies etc. \u2022 attending regularly and consistently to personal care needs such as bathing, hygiene, grooming etc. in a dignified and respectful matter.<\/p>\n
Documentation\/Communication: ensuring information is shared by: completing progress notes at the end of each shift \u2022 reading, documenting in communication books before and after each shift as appropriate \u2022 writing reports immediately following an event ex. general and behavior event reports, etc.<\/p>\n
Bachelors degree is preferred. Must have a passion for working with individuals with a developmental disability. Previous experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges or mental illness is preferred. Access to a registered vehicle with proof of insurance.
